The Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) is a
distributed system of independent, interoperable data pools connected to the
GS1 Global Registry that enables retailers and suppliers to efficiently
exchange accurate, real-time supply chain data.
Data pools are the repositories of product information that
are exchanged between GDSN trading partners and are the single points of entry
into the GDSN for retailers and suppliers via their connection to the Global
Registry. Big Hammer, specializing in the hardlines industry,
has received certification as both a source data pool for suppliers and a
recipient data pool for retailers.
Suppliers use source data pools to store their product
information, and retailers use recipient data pools to receive
that information. Supplier product information is uniquely identified by a
combination of the product Global Trade Identification Number (GTIN),
the Global Location Number (GLN) of the product supplier, and
the target market. Each product is also assigned a classification code, which
conveys several common product attributes, based on Global Product
Classification (GPC) schema.
